Review

PostgreSQL is an object-relational database management system (ORDBMS) based on POSTGRES, Version 4.2, developed at the University of California at Berkeley Computer Science Department.
PostgreSQL is an open-source descendant of this original Berkeley code. It supports a large part of the SQL standard and offers many modern features: complex queries, foreign keys, triggers, views, transactional integrity, multi version concurrency control.
Some of the changes for this release included: Improve handling of URLs in headline() function, improve handling of overlength headlines in headline() function, ensure that a snapshot is available to datatype input functions, avoid unnecessary locking of small tables in VACUUM, avoids wasting large amounts of time on such lists when constraint exclusion is enabled, fix memory leak when a set-returning function is terminated without reading its whole result among many others.
If you are looking for an open-source, enterprise-scale database engine, you will like PostgreSQL.
Advantages
  • Very robust ORDBMS, one of the best open-source products.
Disadvantages
  • Latest version includes more fixes
